How to edit PDF text while preserving its font and style
Need to correct a name, a date or an amount in a PDF? Replace the existing word, check that its style matches and save the corrected page without converting the whole document to Word.
Step by step
1. Open Edit PDF and upload your document
Choose Edit PDF on PDF Feel and select your file. Open the page containing the name, date, amount or other word you need to correct.
2. Choose Replace word
Wait for the editor to detect the words on the page, then select the word you want to change. It uses available PDF font information and a visual comparison to estimate the original style.
3. Type the replacement text
Enter the new text and check the suggested font, size, boldness, italic and color. Adjust them if the result does not match. Detection is not guaranteed to be exact for every PDF.
4. Check the fit and apply the change
For a longer replacement, check Smart Fit and the available space in the line. A short extra phrase may fit; a full address may need manual adjustment or a different placement. Do not force it over neighboring text. Press Replace to apply the change.
5. Save and download the corrected PDF
Review the page preview and press Save edited PDF to download the corrected file to your device. Check the saved document before sending it, especially if the wording is longer than the original.
A correction, not a full page rewrite
PDF Feel covers the original word visually and paints the replacement in that area. Photos, graphics and neighboring content stay in place. This is useful for small corrections; for rewriting whole paragraphs, editing the original Word or other source file is usually better.
A visual replacement is not secure redaction. Do not use it to remove confidential information: covering a word does not guarantee that its original data is removed from the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I edit PDF text online for free?
- Yes. Without an account you get 3 free processings on this device. With a free account you get 5 per month, for files up to 15 MB. All tools are available at each plan level; Premium increases usage and file-size limits and adds cloud storage.
- Will the new text use exactly the same font?
- The editor tries to match the original font, size and style. Embedded font information helps, but unusual font encodings, unavailable characters and noisy scans can require manual adjustments. Always compare the preview with nearby text.
- What happens if my replacement is longer?
- Smart Fit helps manage the space for the replacement within its line. It is not Word-style paragraph reflow: nearby columns and the rest of the page should stay in place. If the line has no safe room, shorten the wording or adjust its placement instead of overlapping other content.
- Can I add new text instead of replacing a word?
- Yes. Choose Insert text, select a nearby existing word as a style reference, then choose where to place your new text. Check the suggested style and adjust it if needed. If no text can be detected, use the manual controls.
- Can I edit text in a scanned PDF?
- A scan contains an image rather than ordinary selectable text. The editor can use OCR to detect words and estimate their visual style; clear, straight scans give better results. If detection is unreliable, try the OCR tool or insert text manually. The whole scan does not become a Word document.
- Is my PDF uploaded while editing?
- Text editing and OCR run in your browser. Saving the file to the cloud is optional. Most PDF Feel processing is local; Translate sends extracted text to Google Translate or MyMemory, so those online functions have different privacy implications.
